Session for Developmentally Disabled Adults           June 17-20, 2012.  For adults who are at least 18 years old and whose disability is primarily connected with mental development, Christikon's camp for the developmentally disabled offers opportunities for enjoyment of the mountain setting and growth in caring relationships. Included are hiking, group recreation, crafts, work projects, shared responsibilities, sharing of talents, music, etc. Christikon staff people reside in the cabins with the campers, and provide program leadership.

Anabaino Youth Ministry Retreat: for Adults Who Work with Youth in the Church June 22-23, 2012.  Throughout his ministry, Jesus would “go up” for prayer and meditation, for rest and renewal, for teaching and ministry. You’re invited to “go up” into the mountains of south-central Montana, joining with others at Christikon to reflect on ministry with young people in your congregation, to find ideas and direction, to experience renewal and connection with those who are your colleagues in ministry in other congregations. Meals are served from Friday supper through and early Sunday breakfast.

Cost:  $50 per adult. For more detailed information about the retreat, and registration information, click here.

Mountain Weekend 1  July 6-8, 2012.   Enjoy some time in the majesty of Montana’s mountains, and join the Christikon life for a leisurely weekend at camp. Special guest will be Will Sappington, who serves as pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Billings, and who will lead sessions with adults. Christikon summer staff will join in offering options for children during the presentations, and a variety of additional program experiences for everyone. Meals are served from Friday supper through Sunday lunch.

This session may be of special interest to parents whose children are planning to attend the Pathfinders Retreat (for youth completing grades five and six.) Pathfinders campers will be at Christikon July 8-11. Instead of returning home with parents on July 8, a child from the family who is registered for the Pathfinders session could simply remain at camp, and then ride the bus back on the last day of that session (July 11).

Schedule

Costs:  $100 per adult, $50 per child 6-12. No charge for children under 6. Add $50 per room for those requesting Living Center housing (each of the six rooms has a queen bed and two singles.) Register.

Continuing Education Retreat July 23-26, 2012.   Running from Monday supper through Thursday lunch, this retreat is designed particularly for rostered ministers, interested lay people, and their families.  It is sponsored jointly with the ELCA Montana Synod’s continuing education program, Northern Rockies Institute of Theology (NRIT).

Guest speakers for the event are Mark Vitalis Hoffman, who teaches New Testament at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (Pennsylvania), and who is committed to teaching Scripture as life source for practice of the faith; and Kathy Vitalis Hoffman, who serves as a pastor at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Middletown, Maryland, and whose heart for preaching and pastoral ministry leads to exploring the role of pastors as story brokers who give voice to the larger story of the divine in, with and under the stories of people's lives. Program options for children are provided during lecture presentations; and Christikon staff hosts for each family are also available for child care at other times as well. Afternoons are open for a variety of recreational opportunities.  Each day is bracketed by morning and evening worship. Meals are served Monday supper through Thursday  lunch. Additional special meal and housing arrangements for overnight, Thursday, July 26, can be made with those who plan to participate also in the following Mountain Weekend 2 (July 27-29). (Speakers' topics will be listed here as they become available.)  Schedule

Costs:  $180 per adult; $90 per child 6-12, plus $150 per family speaker fee. No charge for children under 6. Add $75 per room for those requesting Living Center housing (each of the six rooms has a queen bed and two singles.) Register

Adult Backpacking or CreationCare   dates as arranged. Christikon can host  groups of adults (couples, young adults, one-gender groups, older adults, etc.) in the magnificent mountain wilderness surrounding the camp. Your group must have at least six people, and can have no more than twelve. Two Christikon staff go with each group as leaders.

Dates can be arranged within the context of youth camp trails sessions (July 6-12, July 13-19, July 22-28, July 31-August 6). Youth sessions cover six nights (four in the back country, first and last nights at camp). Your group can reduce the number of days in the back country to 2 or 3; but at least 3 is recommended. Your group arrives afternoon of the first day you are with us, stays overnight at camp for orientation and packing-out, heads into the wilderness the next morning, remains in the back country for 2, 3, or 4 nights, and returns to Christikon the afternoon of your last day on the trail. Typically, the group leaves Christikon early the next morning, after staying overnight at camp; but some adult groups may choose to leave Christikon once they are packed in and cleaned up.

Your route can be tailored to your group. You may do a three- or four-night back country loop, or you may arrange for setting up a two- to four-night base camp from which you day-hike (so you carry packs only the first and last days). Our staff people can lead the program; or they can work with you in shared program leadership for Bible study, Quiet Time and worship.

If your group is interested in a back country service project to rehabilitate or enhance trails, campsites and pristine areas, you may wish to register as a CreationCare group. Click here for information on that program.

Costs: $225 to $395 per adult, depending on session length. Contact the camp office by telephone (406 656-1969) or by e-mail to make arrangements.
