Anabaino Retreat for Adults Who Work With Youth July 25-27, 2008.  Throughout his ministry, Jesus would “go up” for prayer and meditation, for rest and renewal, for teaching and ministry. You’re invited to “go up” into the mountains of south-central Montana, joining with others at Christikon to reflect on ministry with young people in your congregation, to find ideas and direction, to experience renewal and connection with those who are your colleagues in ministry in other congregations. The retreat sponsored jointly with the ELCA Montana Synod’s continuing education program, Northern Rockies Institute of Theology (NRIT).

Special Guest for the Anabaino Retreat will be Dick Hardell, Senior Fellow with the Youth and Family Institute.

Cost:  $60 per adult. For more detailed information about the retreat, and registration information, click here.

They will lead sessions for adults mornings and evenings.  Program options for children are provided during lectures, and Christikon staff hosts for each family are also available for child care at other times as well.  Afternoons are open for a variety of recreational opportunities.  Each day is bracketed by morning and evening worship.  Schedule

More on Speakers Presentations

Kathryn Schifferdecker will focus on Praying the Psalms.

1. The Psalms: An Ancient Practice of Prayer. The book of Psalms has been used through many centuries as a hymnbook and prayer book for faith communities. We'll explore how this ancient collection of songs and prayers can inform our own prayer practices.  2. Laments and the Enemy. The prayer of lament is central to the book of Psalms. We'll discuss the power of lament, the ways in which lament might be used in the church today, and what to do with the enemy language in the Psalms.   3. Creation and the Hallelujah Psalms. The Book of Psalms ends in praise. We'll explore the power and practice of praise and see how the Bible describes creation's praise of God.

David Lose will focus on Preaching in a Post-modern World.

Never in recent history has there been so much cultural change and tumult. Values, meaning, even reality – all of these things seem up for grabs in our postmodern world. But what do we really mean by “postmodern,” and how can people of faith respond to the challenges and opportunities it presents. Further, how does a preacher speak of “truth” in a world skeptical of all truth claims? What do we even mean by truth anymore? And how do we read and preach the Scriptures in this age and climate? These and other questions will shape our time together.

Mountain Mid-Summer Weekend  August 1-3, 2008.   Enjoy some time in the majesty of Montana’s mountains, and join the Christikon life for a leisurely weekend at camp.  Guest speakers will be Kathryn Schifferdecker, who teaches Old Testament at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and David Lose, who serves as Academic Dean and holds the Marbury Chair in Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary. They will lead sessions with adults and one of them will preach during the Sunday Eucharist. Christikon summer staff will join in offering options for children during the presentations, and a variety of additional program experiences for everyone. Meals are served from Friday supper through Monday lunch. Schedule
